Dyna 63
New, World-Class Motoryacht Brand
Enters the U.S. Market
Dyna has been building yachts for more than 30 years and the company is now represented in the U.S. by United Yacht Sales. The 63 flying bridge motoryacht has a commercial-grade, best-in-class Boening systems-monitoring and control screen at the upper and lower helms. At both helms and at the aft docking station, a joystick combines the main engines and bow and stern thrusters. With twin 1,000-hp CAT diesel inboards, she ran 26.3 knots at 2340 rpm during our tests. The interior joinery and fit-and-finish are world-class and must be seen. See the Dyna Yachts 63 on display at the Miami Boat Show. More...
Boston Whaler announced its new 360 Outrage model this week and we’re pleased to show you Capt. Steve’s test and inspection video of the boat. This new model is built on an existing hull but has numerous technical and design improvements that make her pretty much state of the art in class. Perhaps the most profound improvement is the employment of lithium-ion batteries that effectively replace a generator once needed to power air conditioning and a Seakeeper gyro. With twin 600-hp Mercury V12 Verados she is able to break the 60 mph barrier and deliver 1.1 mpg at best cruise. But that is just the beginning. More...
In its new 645 SUV, Riviera has refined the outdoor mezzanine concept that the company invented. It is part aft deck, part salon, part game room. This venue is the most popular place on the boat for most because it is outside in the salt air. The house and side curtains become a windbreak when running or in the evening at anchor, creating a large cozy snuggery for evening cocktails and conversation. In the belly of our test boat were twin 1,550-hp MAN V12 diesels, but we’d be happy with the standard MAN V8s that can crank out 1,300 hp. There is a lot to say about this floating work of art. At 36’1” (11 m) long with a 16’10” (5.1 m) beam, the Fountaine Pajot MY4.S is designed to be a power catamaran that a couple can comfortably cruise at speeds around 20 knots. Powered by twin 250-hp Yanmar diesels, our test boat topped out at 21.4 knots. Back off to 14.5 knots and 2800 rpm and she’ll cover 339.9 nautical miles. Because she’s an express with a low bridge clearance of 12’5” (3.78 m), she could be a good candidate for plying the canals of Europe or making the Great Loop. More...
The Cruisers Yachts 34 GLS is a 35’10” (10.92 m) long day boat that has sleeping space for three belowdecks. She can be powered by twin stern drives and our test boat had a pair of 300-hp Mercury Verados bolted to the transom. At 6000 rpm, we hit a top speed of 45.2 mph. Best cruise came at 4500 rpm and 31.2 mph where she had a range of 233 statute miles. Capt. Steve said the 34 GLS is an easy boat to drive, especially with Mercury’s auto trim taking care of the boat’s attitude. The 300s are the base engines and an owner can choose up to 900 total hp for outboards and up to 860 hp total for twin sterndrives. More...
Archimedes was a mathematician, physicist, engineer — and maybe a boat designer too. He explained that for a body, or a boat, to float, it must displace its own weight of water. This gives a hint on why naval architects often use "displacement" rather than "weight." Is a heavier boat a better-built boat? Not necessarily. More...
Greenland is home to an immense ice sheet and Danish researchers say it has lost enough ice in the last 20 years to submerge the continental United States in 1.64’ (.5 m) of water. NASA adds that melting ice from Greenland is now the main factor in the rise in the earth’s oceans. More...
Azimut Yachts launched its 97’6” (29.63 m) Magellano 30 Metri recently in Viareggio, Italy. The builder says the boat is designed for the experienced owner who craves long-distance adventure in a vessel that looks like she belongs in the 21st century, not a throwback to the 1960s. The concept was a design that offers a view of the sky and sea from every point on board while sustainability-related choices aim to reduce the yacht’s environmental impact. More...
People who are new to boating should think carefully about how they are going to use a boat and who in the family will use it this year and in the future. Be aware of 2-footitis that can be expensive, so if you can afford it, go bigger now. More...
The Lazzarini Design Studio in Rome has unveiled a concept yacht that’s inspired by Ferrari and pays tribute to the legendary Italian sportscar manufacturer, the 90’ (27 m) Gran Turismo Mediterranea (GTM). She has a stern garage designed to carry, of course, a Ferrari. She’s to be powered by MAN V12 engines coupled to Arneson surface drives outboard of a centrally-positioned Hamilton jet. The studio estimates her top speed would be just over 80 mph or 70 knots. More...
The Sovereign Boat Club’s Edgewater 370 CC going out on a test run with two prospective members.
Here’s what one SBC club boat owner has to say –
“The SBC team and its captains treat the boat like it's their own. They pay attention to the little things, like a missing screw, a loose wire. They are very mindful of when maintenance is needed. It's a very personal approach and I can text or call any of them 24/7 and they are either available or respond within minutes. They are a group of people who really love boats and enjoy sharing their experience, knowledge and passion with everyone.” – Anthony P.
To find out how SBC can start paying your annual operating expenses, visit us at the Miami Boat Show at the Herald Plaza venue in the BoatTEST booth HP404. Email us here or call 727-200-3474.
