Aquila 32 Sport Catamaran
Deck Space Adds Utility
The Aquila 32 is the smallest boat in the builder’s power cat fleet but she offers all the versatility of her larger siblings. The bulk of this is in the stern. A move-able backrest converts the 48” (121.92 cm) wide port seat to a chaise-style or flat sun lounge. A center passageway leads aft between the twin Mercury outboards and opens to reveal an overbuilt re-boarding ladder that screams SCUBA dive or spear fishing. Deploy the ladder and there’s an open walkway from the platform to the cockpit, which is also pretty darn inviting. More...
Nimbus’ C11 is like many boats in that she’s a 40’7” (12.36 m) boat with a primary mission of being a commuter that can ferry a captain and eight passengers in protected confines with excellent views of the outdoors, including overhead. The Swedish manufacturer also designed her to be a versatile day boat with convertible lounges and outdoor gathering areas fore and aft. Belowdecks, she can even sleep four and has a full galley plus a private head with a standup shower. More...
For the 88, Sirena Yachts once again collaborated with legendary naval architect German Frers to develop a hull intended to cover long distances smoothly and efficiently, even in less-than-ideal conditions. With twin 1,550-hp MAN V12 diesels running at 1250 rpm, her range exceeds 1,040 nautical miles. Back off to 1000 rpm and 9.3 knots to cover 1,617.7 nm. If the situation calls for it, she can top 20 knots. Because she’s fully customizable, no two versions of the 88 will be the same. More...
The Ingenity 23E is a new boat concept that marries an aluminum, catamaran-like hull platform with a fiberglass superstructure to create an electric-powered luxury, protected-water dayboat. She has the stability of a catamaran, the interior room and comfort of a deluxe pontoon boat, the protective windshield of a dual console, and the stern watersport functionality of a sterndrive bowrider.
Her 63 kW battery pack carries enough energy for all-day sedate cruising or several hours of planing-speed activities. Her 150 kW continuous (about 200-hp) electric motor drives a Mercury Bravo 4 forward-facing counter-rotating dual propeller. But, that’s just the beginning...
At 47’2” (14.38 m), the Everglades 455CC is as long as some small inboard-diesel-powered convertibles and has similar power totals with quad 425-hp Yamaha XTO Offshore outboards. The 455CC, however, has a couple of significant advantages. She burns less fuel, her annual operating cost is much less and she doesn’t need a full-time captain. She also has comfortable seating in the bow. More...
The hydrogen foiling chase boat, here in an early rendering, is expected to get water tested in March.
A hydrogen-powered foiling chase boat being built by Emirates Team New Zealand is expected to get its first water test in March. The current America's Cup defender says the chase boat, which can seat six and has a range of more than 100 miles, is the team’s commitment to driving hydrogen innovation. More...
Despite the importance of modern options such as EPIRBs, PLBs and Digital Selective Calling (DSC), old-school visual distress signals remain both relevant and are the only type of distress signals boaters are required by law to have onboard. Here’s a look at the types of approved visual distress signals available, along with the pros and cons associated with each. More...
First launched in 2019, the Jet Capsule is now in production. It’s a 25’9” (7.85 m) vessel with an 11’1” (3.38 m) beam and it’s powered by a hybrid diesel-electric powertrain linked to a Hamilton 292 jet drive. It’s available with several interior layouts and can seat up to eight passengers plus the captain. The company’s video commercial is a “must see.” More...
SeaWater Pro watermakers have many advantages, but perhaps the most important one for someone who owns a mid-sized yacht is that they can be retrofit in most applications by the boat owner. They don’t cost anywhere near what the larger ones installed at the factory do. They come in 20- and 40 gph units. See what else Capt. Steve likes about them. More...
Vladimir Putin’s 262’ (80 m) Graceful is one of three superyachts said to be owned by him.
Putin’s 262’ superyacht abruptly left the Hamburg Blohm and Voss shipyard at 7:23 am local time on the morning of February 7, 2022. It had been there since September 2021 undergoing repairs and refit, including the addition of balconies and an extension to the swimming platform, according to news reports. Marine Traffic recorded and Hamburg newspapers documented the time that the vessel abruptly left before work was completed. It steamed through the Kiel Canal, motored across the Baltic Sea at 8.8 knots until arriving at the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad at 8:56 local time on Feb 9. During this period Putin was still denying war plans, but it looks as if we know when he made his final decision. More...
