The Riviera 4600 Sport Yacht is all about enjoying the water, island hopping, cruising and entertaining. While most will choose to run her on plane (WOT is over 30 knots and cruise about 21.5 knots), at displacement speeds her range approaches 1,000 nm with twin 800-hp Volvo Pentas. She accommodates six in the standard layout.
Captain Trip and crew head offshore from Key Largo to chase mahi and explore the fishing features of the new Regal 43 SAV (Sports Activity Vessel). She proved to be as ‘fishy’ as any center console in class and a lot more comfortable than the meat-only variety. Check out the gourmet lunch cooked up on the Regal’s cockpit grill for a boat load of hangry anglers.
The Solaris 44 Open has been popular among wealthy Europeans who have an eye for beautiful curves for several years — and now she has come to the US and is available at just a few dealerships. Not only is she a dayboat/weekended knock-out, but she is also exclusive. Already we've worked long enough with the builder to discover that they are perfectionists. The brand is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and is considered the Bentley of dayboats in Europe. See her at FLIBS.
The new Navan S30 was introduced to the boating public at Cannes this September. Our Capt. Boomies was there to take her out on a sea trial and you'll see how she handles in fresh conditions with quite a chop. Boomies does not hold back. The S30 is being built by Brunswick to get a toe in the blunt bow-open-dayboat market that has been sweeping Europe for the last five years.
The 435 features lines linking her to a workboat heritage, but she’s all about comfort and secure coastal cruising for recreational yachting families. The pilothouse welcomes company and she accommodates four below, but three more can weekend on convertibles in the salon. Power is a thrifty single Cummins 550.
With winter not far off, you may be inclined to button up your boat under a snap-on cover — but resist the impulse! Learn why, along with lots of other useful boat cover tips, in this video from Sean Horsfall, owner of Len’s Cove Marina — where they overwinter dozens of boats each year.
Capt. Red Flowers (above, right), a stage-four cancer survivor, drove a Canyon Bay 28h powered by a 400-hp V10 engine to set a new speed record for completing the 6,000-mile Great Loop — with a little help from the first Sharrow prop designed expressly for the V10. Capt. Red made the mad dash to raise $1 Million for the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. See the video on how he did it, running day and night. Will you help Capt. Red help the kids?
The 138 m (452.7’) Rising Sun was built for Larry Ellison, co-founder and CEO of Oracle. She is reported to have cost more than $290,000,000 and was extended by 59’ (18 m) in-build to ensure she was larger than the 126.2-m Octopus, belonging to Microsoft’s co-founder, Paul Allen. She accommodates 16 guests and 45 crew.
BlueNav electric retractable pods can mount on the transom or within the hull to produce silent, emission-free power. Joystick control allows functioning as bow and stern thrusters or GPS position-holding motors. The company says each produces the equivalent of 25 hp in thrust.
