At the Miami Boat Show, Scout Boats introduced its 400 LXF center console. She’s a premium yacht powered by two 600-hp Mercury V12 Verado outboards. She has many upscale features as standard equipment, including heated helm seats, reverse-cycle air conditioning, a Seakeeper 3 gyroscopic stabilizer plus a microwave and sink in the cabin. The aft port-side bulwark folds out to provide a swim platform – or door to bring a large fish aboard. Scout has also stepped up its upholstery game.
We were there when Dave Wallace, the president of Scout, presented the new 400 LXF to the marine press corps and we made a video of it for our members. See it and find out the price by clicking here...

The Grady-White Freedom 215 boasts some of the easiest boarding access in its class with swing-away backrests on the aft seats. They pivot out of the way for entry and exit via the swim platform. The spacious cockpit and full-height windshield provide protection from the elements – something you often don’t see on a 21-footer (6.5 m). An optional, easy-to-install bow table provides a touch of luxury and insulated compartments under the bow seats allow for icing down fish or drinks. As with all Gradys, she has the signature SeaV2® hull. More...

The X95 is the flagship of Princess Yachts’ new X series. She measures 95.14’ (29 m) long and two of her most noteworthy design elements are that her flying bridge and main deck cover nearly her full length. Princess says the concept provides 10% more outdoor space and 40% more interior volume than traditionally designed motoryachts. Her full-beam master is on the lower deck, where there are accommodations for six additional guests plus crew. To learn the rest of her story, click to go to the Princess website. More...

When trying to explain how a propeller works, it is usually compared with a screw that enters wood and moves into it as it is turned. But in reality, a boat propeller operates in water, not a solid. The difference between the theoretical distance advanced and the actual distance advanced by the propeller in each 360-degree rotation is called slip. So, a prop with an 18" (45.72 cm) pitch does not actually advance 18" with every revolution – it is less, and in the mid RPM range, it is much less. More...
It’s easy for a new boater to tie up the launch ramp and not even know he/she is doing it. For example, when pulling up to a public launch ramp, the first thing to do is NOT to get in line to launch. Your first tip is to go slow because you’re in a hurry. To learn more tips, click here...
