NEW TEST & FEATURES VIDEO. The Solaris 44 Open has been popular among wealthy Europeans who have an eye for beautiful curves for several years — and now she has come to the US and is available at just a few dealerships. Not only is she a dayboat/weekended knock-out, but she is also exclusive. Already we've worked long enough with the builder to discover that they are perfectionists. The brand is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and is considered the Bentley of dayboats in Europe. See her at FLIBS.
SHOCK MITIGATION. The time has come for recreational boaters to follow the lead of the USCG and other government organizations (who must protect their personnel) and either slow down in rough conditions or install equipment to protect the back and necks of operators and passengers. "Seaspension" is a patented pedestal shock mitigation system that is effective, affordable and easy to install. We think shock-mitgating seating should be considered by anyone going fast offshore.
FEATURES VIDEO. Greenline is the industry's pioneer in hybrid power, which is now beginning to be thought about by other brands. But Greenline has a big head-start. We tested the Greenline 58 Fly with the hybrid option a few months ago and you should see the video. This week at FLIBS other models will be exhibited and those thinking about hybrid should stop by and find out all about it.
TEST VIDEO. The plumb bow of the CLX 96 gives her a distinctive adventure-yacht profile and also provides more volume forward both on deck and in the master suite below. She’s also innovative aft, with swim steps extending to a hydraulic platform that lowers into the water — or elevates above to make an intimate cocktail spot for two. See her at FLIBS.
PRE-OWNED YACHT. Stay Salty is a semi-displacement superyacht powered by twin 1,550-hp MAN diesels, with a range of 1,700 NM at a cruising speed of 10.5 knots per the seller. She sleeps 13 in six luxurious ensuites and accommodates nine crew. The owner’s suite is on the upper bridge deck and encompasses the entire 28’ beam. She was refitted just this year.
BOATING SAFETY. Person-Over-Board or POB devices designed to be worn by those onboard will sound an alert at the helm if someone accidentally goes over the side. They’re real life-savers, but be sure you choose one that suits your boat, your style of boating and your crew.
CRUISING. Kent Narrows is where the Chesapeake Bay goes to cut loose. Its shoreline — less than a mile from top to bottom — has dock bars galore, from Red Eye’s Dock Bar on the Chester River side to The Jetty on the Eastern Bay side. And there’s lots more to enjoy here, as well.
WORLD'S LARGEST SUPERYACHTS. The 138 m (452.7’) Rising Sun was built for Larry Ellison, co-founder and CEO of Oracle. She is reported to have cost more than $290,000,000 and was extended by 59’ (18 m) in-build to ensure she was larger than the 126.2-m Octopus, belonging to Microsoft’s co-founder, Paul Allen. She accommodates 16 guests and 45 crew.
This was taken at dawn next to Cliff Island, Casco Bay, Maine.
