The Sovereign Boat Club bought a new Axopar 28 Cabin that can be delivered to an owner at the end of May. Plans are to keep her at an appropriate location somewhere in Florida. She’s powered by twin 200-hp Mercury outboards. She has a bow thruster and air conditioning powered by a Lithium battery. Capt. Steve says she is one of the most fun boats he has ever driven. See his test here…

Windy’s SR44 SX is a Euro-styled yacht designed to serve many roles from superyacht tender, regatta chase boat, family cruiser or weekender. She’s available in three models and all ride on the company’s monohedron hull that has a sharp keel, entry and chines. She’s available with sterndrive, outboard or IPS power and our test model had Mercury’s new 600-hp V12 Verados. After our experience at the helm, it would be tough to convince us that these aren’t the best propulsion system for the application thanks to their torque, twin contra-rotating props and two-speed transmissions. The 2006 Viking V58 Express Yacht, Joyce Five, is a rare opportunity for fans of the Viking name who don’t fish. She has a three-stateroom, two-head layout below with a large opening sunroof over the salon and helm. There’s also a tender garage in the stern. She’s powered by twin 1,100-hp MAN 1100-CR diesels and has a 21.5-kW generator with sound shielding. More...
HCB Yachts takes credit for coining the term Mega Center Console Yacht with its 65’ Estrella, a boat that takes large center consoles to the next level. She measures 65’ (19.81 m) long with a 16’ (4.88 m) beam and can be powered by five 425-hp Yamaha outboards or six Mercury Racing 450Rs. HCB was one of the most popular boats for Seven Marine’s supersized V8 outboards when they were being built. She carries 1,500 gallons (5,678.11 L) of fuel and comes standard with bow and stern thrusters. To see how this beast stands out from the center-console crowd, check out the HCB website. More...
One reason why Hatteras’ GT65 Carolina rides so well is that virtually all of the mechanical weight is mounted low in the hull. By mounting the engines and fuel tank amidships, the vessel is well balanced and has a low CG. Her bottom has tunnels for the propellers. This provides for a shallower shaft angle that improves efficiency and reduces the boat’s draft. If you would like to see Capt. Steve test this boat, let us know here...
The Seakeeper 1 is a DC-powered gyroscopic stabilizer designed for smaller boats.
Gyroscopic stabilizers come in two power modes, AC or DC. While they were in the past strictly something to be installed on a larger cruiser, thanks to companies like Tohmei, Seakeeper and Quick, there are now DC (Directo Current) gyros compact and light enough to be suitable for trailerable boats. In this article, we focus on models that are suited to smaller boats where space and weight can be an issue. More...

Especially for a boat that heads offshore, a spare propeller is invaluable.
Most boats, but particularly single-engine boats, should have a spare prop aboard. Large cruising boats with twin engines should have two spare props. Further, props must be lashed securely to the vessel to avoid damage to both it and the boat. More...
