Paolo Vitelli built over the last 53 years the biggest recreational boat building company -- building big yachts -- the world has ever seen. At right with his daughter, Giovanna, who is now the CEO of Azimut/Beneti.
In 1969 Paolo Vitelli started a sailboat charter company. In the 1970s he started Azimut, a brand that at the time was built by third-parties. In 1985 he bought Benetti for pennies on the dollar. The next year C.N. Ray sold Sea Ray for $350 million and Orin Edson sold Bayliner for $425 million, both to Brunswick. In 2022, Azimut/Benetti’s order book exceeded $1 billion Euros. No wonder the Saudi Public Fund wanted to get part of this action. More...
