Compression Tests, Explained

What It Tells You, What It Doesn’t

compression-test-1

DIAGNOSTIC TOOL, NOT A VERDICT This short video from Len's Cove Marina explains what a compression test actually measures and when it’s useful during a used-boat purchase. Compression is one of the three basic requirements for an engine to run, along with fuel and spark, and a test can help identify internal engine problems. However, the video makes clear that a compression test alone does not confirm how an engine performs under real operating conditions.
